The answer is 288 definately. agree,,,Quote ( Marcin Milczarek @ April 19th 2011,18:45:46 )
Order is not: - muliply - divide but: - multiply & divide if there are two or more operations with equal precedence in these case multiplication and division , those operations should be done from left to right 48 ÷ 2 * (9+3)= 48 ÷ 2 * (12)= 48 ÷ 2 * 12= 24 * 12=288

OMG, it is not adding brackets It so is. These ones:
Quote ( Luke Czarnocki @ April 19th 2011,18:50:18 )
So in this case it should be write: (48/1)*(1/ ( 2(9+3) ) )=2 Think about this in that way.

Your mistake is that it is correctly (48/1)*(1/2x) and NOT (48/1)*(1/(2x)). We had that before with the example of the more simplier 48/2x which is 48/2*x which is 24*x (resp. 24x) ... resp. if you want to point explicitely on

division is in fact a multiplication fractions then it is 48/2x = 48*x _____ 2

Only took you 8^2+2(4+3) posts to get to that point. Or 9.35% of the posts in the thread if you like it that way.
heh..

The equation is not 48 ---*(9+3) 2
it´s
48 -------- 2(9+3)

You can't calculate in this way: 48/2(9+3) = 48/ (2*9 +2*3). This is wrong.
First You need to do brackets: (9+3) = 12. Now calculate 48/2*12. Math's rules order to begin from left to right, if statement has multiply and divide, cos muliply and divide are equal.
Is someone taught to you how remove the brackets???
First you need remove de brackets

First you need remove de brackets I know it should be calculated in different way, like here:
... but I showed it in short, simple way.

You can't calculate in this way: 48/2(9+3) = 48/ (2*9 +2*3). This is wrong. Definately wrong the answer is 288. I'm gonna tell it 288 times then I'll stop it.

If it were 48/(2*(9+3)) then it would be 2.
But as its 48/2*(9=3) it is 288.

it´s 2. There´s a reason why it isnt 2*(9+3), but 2(9+3). But I don´t think that changes your opinion...

Really 48/2(9+3)=y 9+3=x so x=12
48/2x
48/2x
So 2*12 =24
so 48/24=2
If there a space between the 2 and the x, which there isn't, it would be 288. As there isn't, its 2.

Topic: 48÷2(9+3)=??? 2 or 288
Apply the rules of order
1. Solve in brackets 48/2(2+9) = 48/2(12) 2. Multiply 48/2(12) = 48/24 3. Divide 48/24 = 2
The answer is 2. There is no other correct answer.

There aren't any other way to remove the brackets:
48/2(9+3)
48/(2*9 + 2*3)
48/24
2
This is the correct way. People who says 288 don't know remove brackets in maths
