well looks like we know the poll winners now... :p

Saw this coming, and I doubt the mechnical issues they have been having made McLaren the past few weeks helped their case much...

Whitmarsh confirmed that they offered even more money than Mercedes :) So obviously money wasn't why he chose to swap teams.

Well that settles the case hes NOT went for money watch him win races next season and titles beyond 2013 :)

Hamilton is the best driver in F1 hes made a great move.

Good assumption? Love to hear a reason.

If this is the case, all customer teams are screwed? The only teams left with a chance will be Ferrari and Mercedes? No other manufacturer produces its own engines? Apart from maybe Lotus/Renault. McLaren have produced a turbo engine, its in the MP4-12C. McLaren know what they are doing, taking the Mercedes engine away wont cause them to implode and crumble into nothing? The regulations are the same around the board. Everyone has the same issue. Just because Mercedes produce their own engine doesn't mean they get different regulations to everyone else.

I don't understand the hatred against McLaren. They are a top team, have been for decades? Why do people hate them? Why do people hate Hamilton, get some lives people.

The only thing going for Mercedes, is Ross Brawn. If he can repeat his 2009 magnificence and make good of the rule changes in 2014, Lewis stands a good chance of nailing another championship. But if other teams get on top of it as well. Its not going to be plain sailing. Remember the 1988 F1 season, the last time we saw turbo engines? McLaren won 15 of 16 races. So... Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. It might have been a Honda engine, but McLaren chassis. McLaren know how that will be utilized in some way. Mercedes never produced a turbo engine for Formula 1. So its unknown territory to some extent for them.

I'm bored of making a point, I think everyone needs to slow down slating McLaren and look at the bigger picture.

Hey mate i like McLaren they are a great team but haven't won a constructors since 1999 thats why i think Hamilton has made the right decision to move to Mercedes :)

McLaren has not got the luck they need Hamilton has brilliant speed and McLaren couldn't captlies on that. Then i cant see any other driver making McLaren No.1

So they have won it in the last 3 years have they? Don't count them as Brawn, the team structure is different now....

Going to Mercedes is a mistake, the team is as bad as McLaren at making huge mistakes, even back in the Honda days they had terrible moments every season, half their cars were slow and they never seem to win (2009 the only exception). Hamilton should've gone to Stewart/Haas instead http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/F1+Driver+Lewis+Hamilton+...

Almost certainly a bad move, the interesting part is whether he can beat Rosberg or not since they're both talented drivers who will be on an equal footing for the first time.

Said it before, I'll say it again.

Hamiltons move to Mercedes is a terrible idea overall.

Yes, Mclaren buggered up this season. However haven't Mercedes too?

I'm near certain the sponsorship deals that Hamilton will no doubt be made to sign will make his management company very happy.

To be honest, as a Macca fan, I'll be happy to see him stop cheering them on.

Hamilton really needs to improve that car, along with the Merc team, if he wants to win the championship. His aim is to win the championship. Can he do that with Mercedes? Only time will tell. Don't count on it though, Macca will probably be stronger without him now anyway with two drivers who have the same perspective of racing.

@ People reading too much into the 2014 engines all the main teams will have engines designed around them

Ferrari and Mercedes are manufacture teams, Red Bull are the main focus for Renault (Lotus are just a customer now) and McLaren are likely to have PURE engines so they should be in a good position still and not enough at a disadvantage to move to a car which will likely become piss poor after a few rounds.

"Had Mark gone, Dietrich(red bull) would have signed Lewis."

Ecclestone said he then proposed the idea of approaching Mercedes to Hamilton.

"Why not talk to Mercedes, Lewis?" Ecclestone recalls asking Hamilton. "Lewis rolled his eyes," he added, "but I told him that he had nothing to lose as he wanted out of McLaren."

I wonder if JB would have been as kind as nico was to be his rear gunner though while coasting to save fuel. So, yeah, I think it will help lewis that it seems he is now a number 1 driver as he never quite liked the equal treatment at McLaren. So, it's good for him, maybe bad for the sport in terms of racing.

Mercedes will be keen to point out that they were just looking for a solid result, but for sure a few sponsors will have been keener to see Hamilton get a podium for his new constructors in only race 2. Well, it's a good job I guess that Nico and Lewis get on better than Mark and Seb appear not to. As long as Nico will be happy to always be behind Lewis if they are in close proximity then Mercedes should have a great partnership to go forward with.

Surprised me that the Mercedes are so quick. Nico understands the economics of the sport and was gracious to give up the podium finish to Hamilton. I hope Hamilton doesn't end up being the lead driver in that team.

Webber the Whiner... On the podium he says.... told to preserve the tires... then Seb goes and does things, that are not nice to me. Boo-hoo-hoo

Hamilton and Vettel team mates.... might be more of the type of racing we saw here. A bit of paint trading :)

Massa did well enough, with better luck he could have placed with Rosberg or Hamilton and Alonso not being in there, is a missing element that could have been in the race ending.

Go Seb!!

Oh.. and on topic. I think Hamilton made a great move to Mercedes. Now he can really show his skills.

Hamilton did 2 fantastic things this year (without eachother those things would be normal, but in this case-no):
1.Hamilton changed his team from McLaren-Mercedes to Mercedes
(not a big change in names i'd say)
2.He pitted in McLaren-Mercedes pitplace with Mercedes car.(not a very big change in names, but a ~10 meter change in geographical location :D)
