Formula One is a great sport to watch (in my opinion, anyway!). But is the astronomical amount of money spent on it every year too much for the non-environmentally friendly entertainment it is? Anyway, if we already know that the winner is most likely going to be Vettel every time, what's the point? I am open to discussion, and I have a few other opinions too, but what do you think?

The good teams don't lose money on F1 they gain through huge sponsorship deals.
Also F1 is not bad for the environment since it helps develop more green technologies, hence engines becoming 1.6 Turbo's next year. Also the safety of modern road cars owes a lot to Formula 1.

Waste of money, but most of the sports are imo :p

Please explain non-environmentally friendly. I need a good laugh.

Explain how F1 is worse for the environment than somebody going on holiday?

I love FI. The competition, new technologies, pushing the envelope in so many ways.
Where I am torn is the amount of money spent.
Looking at it from a world view where so many do not have food, shelter or clothing, it leaves me feeling a little guilty at the astronomical amounts of money spent on a sport. But that really says lots about our society, not just one sport. A lot of athletes and celebrities are paid more than some third world country's budgets.
I wish that I could just enjoy the sport, but I can't without pondering some of these things once in awhile.

When I go on holiday I go to Stockport.
It's walking distance.

I was just correcting my bad grammar, not discussing this point (plus, I think that ur right, I was just saying that to make people realise it)

All entertainment is 'bad for the environment'. Reading a book is bad for the environment. Talking on the phone is bad for the environment. Buying groceries is bad for the environment. Me typing this post out is bad for the environment.
I'm just asking what your reasoning and point is with F1 supposedly being bad for the environment.

22 drivers start driving their cars for the 2 hours whilst 300 million viewers stop driving their cars for 2 hours.
I fail to see the non-eco-friendly part ^^

people who tell formula 1 is a waste of money dont deserve to play this game. they are a disgrace to formula 1.i said no formula 1 is not a waste of money buuuuurrrrrrrrnnnnn.

And after the race you can eat the donkey with family and friends:), you can´t eat a much more expensive F1 car.

The OP is too vague in my opinion.
I'm saying no - F1 is not a waste of money
The president of Toyota however would vote yes, having spent around 350m Euro every year for 8 years only to win absolutely **** all.
The Spanish government pulled the Valencia GP as it was loosing money & they couldn't afford to subsidise it (although interestingly the government loaned 100m to the football team - so they obviously consider F1 a waste of money as well)
so, it depends.

Yes its a waste of money. However its not my money so let em carry on. As for the green issue... get a life you yogurt knitting freaks! :D
|
|
|
It's a waste of money, but would your life be more interesting or more boring without it?
|
|
|
well you say its a waste of money , tell that to all the people employed within f1(and i dont mean the drivers) :)

F1 has changed since I started watching, but all automotive sport has changed. I like the way F.I.A. has implemented updates and new rules for each new season, they are trying to curb costs, could you amagin how expensive F1 would be if left to the constructors to self police them self. After all this is suppose to be the pinnacle of auto racing, the rich boys game, sure its a waste of money, as long as its not my money.
|
|
|
Yea, I agree with one fact which might be off the rail here. New rules were implemented for next season to save money - but instead of saving it's making all more expensive, at least for the first season.
This is why we see those stupid drivers who can't drive but someone has paid a seat for 'em. I don't see why rules were changed this way.
So, I would like F1 to drop down a little the costs so we could get the best drivers in the grid, not any noobs like Maldonado, who reacts in middle of battle crashing to two racemates.
Bah, what am I dreaming.. It's F1 and will always be.

Formula one is the most technically advanced sport (also the most expensive) it is also one of the most exciting and glamourous sports. Also you can't say that it's not friendly to the planet because the 3.8L V8 in that car is probably more eco friendly then the 2.0L in your Ford Focus. The teams who race in F1 though are sponsored by a load of teams and as long as it's not your money or my money I don't care just let me watch my favorite sport in peace!

Having fun is never a waste of money.
F1 is.
