Some say 2. Some Say 288. Some say it's could be both 2 and 288 because the equation isn't specific enough regarding which system should be used!
Help!

It is a Math Abrev.
48/2*(9+3)
2x(3x^2+5x+2) = 2*x*(3*x^2+5*x+2)
(9+3) * 48/2 = 48/2 * (9+3)

The way I was taught it in school it would be two-hundred and eighty-eight. As in the rule, PEMDAS, Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract, you match PE, MD, and AS togethor, and do whichever comes first in the problem.
Just the way I was taught and would've always done it :)
According to the state of VA school system 288 would be correct, but...;)

BODMAS is the same as BEDMAS, apart from exponent is know as order, pretty much the same thing

LOL :D It must be 2 :D because 2(9+3) is one expression... so first you must 9+3=12... then 2*12= 24... and the last 48:12=2 :D

Well i cant remember what the 'O' stands for lol But i think they're one and the same, just slightly different words depending whether you're in the UK or US.

at least from what math i know
48/2*(9+3)
first we resolve 9+3=12
so, 48/2*12
and you now must resolve them in their order, you can't do 2*12 before 48/2
at least that's what i know
and excell agrees with me :)

Wow, I don't know how is it called, but I've never used * first and then / on those 2, who comes first, served first, so 288 for me
I made it on my calc and got 4

that was my first thought... but then I realized that there are no second brackets...

Using algebra, make the answer x and solve the equation:
48/(2(9+3)) = x
2x(9+3) = 48
2x = 48/12
2x = 4
x = 2
!
