|
|

I'd be happy to help :)
Speak English and 'slightly more than basic' French and Spanish :)

I'll volunteer for this.
Would you post up the "expectations" you will be giving the new players?
|
|
|
Great idea. I will volunteer. But I am currently coaching a few players already. Im pretty much done this throughout GPRO. Im sure most of you have also. It explains why there are so many outstanding managers who have little time in the game. They have perfect accounts and reach the dizzy heights of Pro and Master without a team and played the game for 20-30mins between every race lol.
Just joshing around.
Im in Keri. Can we have parameters? Like age range etc. I would rather not get a 12 yr old. No offence to 12 yr olds but I want an adult who has life experience and general common sense to go on. Just a personal preference dont shoot me

Nice idea. It addresses one of the biggest problems with GPRO.
BUT there might be a better way to address it. Some games have really good tutorials which step you through the processes. As you to click on various commands, they explain why and you end up completing a task you will have to do later in the game. There might be one for Doing a test. Calculating the tyre wear. Calculating the fuel consumption. Upgrading the car.
Searching for a driver with XXX skill. Starting sponsor negotiations. Doing Q1. ... Downgrading a part.
The best ones reward you when you complete a task.
Why not work with GPRO to create a similar thing here? With your mentoring you will learn which tasks trip the newbies up most often.
Then create the tutorial needed to achieve it. When they have completed all the steps they get some money. Instead of starting with $30 million ( which they waste ), they could start with $10 million with the rest obtainable by completing all the tutorials. Some of the tutorials might take a number of races to complete. Say there is a sponsor tut. It might not finish until they have reached the first question ( Which part? ).
Once completed the tutorial remains ( maybe for one season ), so they can refer to it again, but there is no further rewards.
The certificate questions could also be improved to help Newbies.
It would also standarize the info Newbies get. I see some mentors giving out way more info than others.

Fair point, but in terms of player retention, the personal touch is far better. It's an opportunity to socialise make friends as such.

I would love to have a mentor pls.

I love this idea.I thought about it once, when I was struggling in Rookie.Luckily I got into a good team, where all managers explained me how to do it.But that was done at a cost of 3M.
Count me in Keri.

Brilliant idea and execution on initiative Keri. Count me in as well. :)
In my experience, the best way to learn, is to learn how to learn. lol. Makes sense if you think about how many people get told what to do.

Count me in too Keri.A brilliant idea.

I really hope this is another one of your super sick sense of humour.

The answer and tools are there in the team forum and i proved one of those last season.
As for how to stay there its work in progress.:)

Great idea , count me in for italian and english language if you think I can do it as a mentor . Personally I think everyone win a rookie group with good money can help about driver , fuel , tyres , risks , and everything a rookie at first season needs to know .

will it be possible to have enough mentors? i dont think so :( but what if we could give them the basics via a series of mails(including links to some best newbie forums maybe )...i dont know if a tutorial will be possible easily :(
and maybe along with a note from someone experienced saying why they like the game , why are they still playing after so many years ,etc.
if we (the committee or whatever) see that newbie is interested and has tried to follow the guidelines , read the rules and stuff..(probably by a test slightly different from the cert test) and if they pass , only then can they apply for a mentor or something like that... because when i joined , i did not bother to read the forums and i am sure there will be more like me . and i understand the point of 'Personal Touch' or whatever that was but the question is will it be possible for all? And Noobs are capable of asking some good questions so even after knowing the basics they will need mentors for those doubts...Mentors might not give them the FOBY info but the can surely help them find it on their own IMHO
maybe ^_^

I couldnt agree more, I knew nothing until my mentor came along and after that everything changed. :)
I dont mind taking up as a mentor.
However there needs to be certain guidelines to it, should newbies be spoonfed or do they need to be shown the path to walk on?

It's a nice idea , count me on it :)

Count me in too Keri. Would be glad to help in whatever way it is possible to show newbies the right direction.

but this part of newcomers is already more likely to stay in game even without mentorship ... the other part of newcomers, who is completely lost, would be in more 'urgent' need of help to encourage them retain in game.

Hmmmmm... I guess you can count me in.

I remember my team mate Jeff had a similar idea several seasons ago and even was a mentor of some rookies. Back then I already liked it, so well done to You too Keri! Great willingness and enthusiasm mate ;]
I would gladly be a part of this project.

If I fulfil the requirements of a mentor, then count me in :D

I was thinking of creating a team to mentor, coincidentally and as an external arm of my current team. Maybe this would be against the rules, don't know.

Certainly an idea that has been considered before. (An observation, not a criticism.) The trouble is that teams such as this tend to be inherently unstable, due not only to the high turnover of members but also to the waning interest of the founding member(s) after a couple of seasons.
|
|
|
The team idea might have some merit. I reckon that we agree on some set basics to post in newly created teams, then allocate the managers to one of these teams. Each one gets a mentor that can teach a manager, though via PM. The new players get the benefit of being in a team with basic knowledge, and a tutor for private guidance where necessary.

I could mentor and am on and off the site throughout the day to answer queries.
Perhaps i could even use my newbie to test out some of my more dangerous theories ;) (kidding)

Sounds good Keri. Count me in, especially for the new Dutch managers
